Blogs written by some of the Scouts for sharing on the website/Facebook page (2023-24 activities)3/26/2024 Big ‘O’ Orienteering competition (7th October 2023) In October 2023, the 1st Amersham Common Scout group participated in the Bucks Big ‘O’ orienteering competition. It was in Wendover Woods and was good fun. The walk had good views – very picturesque. We also did quite well – 5th out of about 90. I enjoyed the event a lot. Overall, I think this is a good, diverse Scout group with a wide range of activities. Stuart Abseiling at PACCAR (13th March 2024) On the 13th of March we travelled to PACCAR to do some abseiling where we climb down a vast wooden wall with out feet (with shoes) and crate stacking that included having a partner and involved great teamwork by having to climb up blocks one by one until there are no more blocks to climb up. Although I could only do abseiling twice, I had a great time enjoying climbing down a big wall, even if I couldn’t get the opportunity to do crate stacking this time, I had the best of fun. Haren Knife whittling (6th March 2024) On the 6th March, we did whittling which is where you cut pieces of wood with a knife. We learnt about how to use knives safely. You can do this by having the knife blade facing away when you are not using it and having the sheaf covering the knife. The goal of whittling was to make a very sharp point (similar to a pencil). This was very useful because it is important to whittle in a survival situation to make campfires and things like that. William

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are pleased to be restarting back this week, 12th September (Cubs), 13th (Scouts) & 14th (Beavers). Squirrel Drey startingWe are still in the process of building a team of leaders and young leaders so we can open a Squirrel Drey (for 4-6 year olds). If you are interested in helping and joining our team of leaders please contact Victoria Golby (07770 782 922, [email protected]).
Young Leaders need to be over the age of 14 and this can be done as the volunteering part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. We were proud to celebrate the Coronation of HM King Charles III on the 6th May and for the national Big Help Out, which followed on Monday 8th May, we worked individually and in small groups to clean road signs near where we live; our little bit for the community. We were lucky to have some great weather for this and also got the chance to chat with some local residents about what we do as a group. We're inspired by King Charles's lifetime of service to help other people and support our communities and it feels great to help other people - in Scouts there's a place for everyone
Crown made by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Now hanging from the tree next to the Village Green in Little Chalfont.
The Beavers had a great trip last week when we went to RAF Northolt to see the HEMS (Royal London Hospital) AIr Ambulence and meet the pilot. They were all very interested in the helicopter and finding out how it works and how the HEMS team work to save lives across London.
We are hoping to take the Cubs and Scouts to visit as well, either later this term or early next term. We had a great Joint Carol Service with the Guides & Brownies on Thursday. Really clear & confident readers from all sections and there was great enthusiasm and energy in the carol singing. Well done to all.
The leaving collection was for Help the Ukraine and the Local Foodbank, and £135.10 was raised in total (£67.55 to each charity). Well done to everyone that came to the Remembrance Sunday parade and service yesterday. There was a good turnout from Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, as well as the Guide groups; which was much appreciated by all who attended.
Well done to all those who carried flags, the Cub who laid the wreath on behalf of the group; and the 2 Scouts for reading so well and clearly.
